Questions?

Types of Tours / Destination

  • What is a Day Tour / Join-in Tour?

This is our most popular and best-value option.

Best Value: Shared tour with fixed itinerary and pickup points.

Format: Like a premium shuttle bus with a guide. Minimum 6 pax, max 14 pax.

Ideal for: Solo travelers, couples, students, budget-conscious explorers, travelers who like to make new friends on the tour.

  • What is a Private Tour?

A fully private experience dedicated solely to your group.

The Format: You get a dedicated vehicle and guide. No strangers will join your trip.

    Flexibility:

Service Tiers: To better serve different needs, we offer 3 distinct levels:

🥉 Black Bear: The Essential Private Tour (Fixed Route, Best Value).

🥈 Grizzly Bear: The Flagship Package (Semi-custom, ideal for Families/Seniors).

👑 The Boss: The Ultimate Bespoke (Founder-hosted, Private Travel Bulter Service, Photography, Unlimited Flexibility and more).

Capacity: We can accommodate any group size, from private vehicle to 54-seat buses (upon request).

  • Do you offer "Multi-Day Packages"?

Industry Reality: In the Calgary/Banff market, true "all-inclusive multi-day tours" (where the same guide, bus, and group stay together for days) rarely exist. Most agencies simply bundle several "Day Tours" together. This means your guide, driver, and bus often change every day, and itineraries are subject to last-minute grouping changes.

The Banff Bear Way: To ensure quality and transparency, we recommend booking multiple "Single Day Tours" instead.

Benefit: You have full control. You can mix and match (e.g., Lake Louise on Monday, rest on Tuesday, Icefields on Wednesday).

No Hidden Changes: You won't be forced into a merged group schedule.

Assistance: We are happy to assist with itinerary planning and hotel recommendations to build your perfect trip.

  • What is the Best Group Size for a Private Tour?

Pricing depends heavily on whether you wish to visit Moraine Lake, due to Parks Canada regulations.

You want to visit Moraine Lake (Summer)

The Rule: Private vehicles are banned. We must legally use a commercial vehicle with 11+ seats to enter.

Implication: Even if you are a couple (2 pax), we must deploy a large 14-seater van to get you in. This makes the cost higher.

Best Value: A group of 11-14 people offers the lowest cost per person.

You do NOT need Moraine Lake or visiting in winter

Best Value: Groups of 3, 5, 11, or 14 people perfectly fill our various vehicle sizes, maximizing your budget.

(Note: For extra-large groups, we can arrange 17-54 seat coaches. Please inquire for a quote.)

  • Why can't I drive to Moraine Lake myself?

Since 2023, Parks Canada has banned all private vehicles from the Moraine Lake road due to extreme congestion.

Our Access: Banff Bear Travel holds a commercial permit. Our tours include guaranteed access to the lakefront without the stress of hunting for parking or booking sold-out shuttle buses.

  • Do you offer tours starting from Vancouver, Jasper, or Edmonton?

Our headquarters are located in Calgary.

Join-in Day Tours: These strictly depart from Calgary, Canmore, and Banff only.

Private Tours: Yes! If you wish to start your journey from Vancouver, Jasper, or Edmonton, we can arrange this as a Custom Private Tour. Please contact us directly for a bespoke quote and itinerary planning.

Since Vancouver is 10-12 hours away from Banff, customers often underestimate the cost. I recommend adding a small "Reality Check" note if you put this on the website:

Note: Vancouver is approximately 900km from Banff. Private transfers from Vancouver typically involve multi-day itineraries.

  • What is the best way to see Lake Louise and Moraine Lake in one day

The most efficient way to see both lakes is via a Banff Bear Travel's guided tour. Public shuttles often involve long wait times and transfers. A private or small-group tour allows you to visit both iconic lakes.

  • How many days should I plan for my Banff trip?

To truly experience the highlights of Banff National Park, we recommend setting aside a minimum of 4 full days. If you plan to explore both Banff and Jasper, you will need at least 6 full days to enjoy the journey without feeling rushed.

  • What is the best time to schedule my return flight from Calgary?

To maximize your sightseeing time on the final day and ensure a stress-free journey back to the airport, we strongly suggest booking a departure flight that takes off after 11:00 PM.

Summer is a busy time! During peak season (Around July 1 – September 1), we recommend arriving at the airport at least 3 hours before departure. This is especially important if you are flying internationally (including to the U.S.) or have checked luggages.

  • Should I tip in Banff?

It is costumary to tip for service such as guided tour, resteruant, massage etc in Canada but booking with Banff Bear Travel would have no pressure for tips!

While tips are not expected. If your guide goes above and beyond, makes your experience truly special, for example, he take beautiful pictures for you or helps you a lot, please feel free to tip anything.

Safety & Comfort

  • Can I Smoke in Banff?

Smoking is only permitted in designated areas within national parks.

Please DO NOT smoke on / around our vehicle.

Please dispose of cigarette butts responsibly and ensure no risk of fire remains.

While your right to smoke is respected, we kindly ask you to avoid smoking during tours as the confined space of our buses can affect others.

Let’s prioritize fresh air for everyone!

Bears do not like smoking :(

  • Can I bring young children on the tour?

We cherish every guest, from the tiniest explorers to the most seasoned travelers.

In fact, we love your kids and want to take care of them like a Mama Bear guarding her cubs. Because of that protective instinct, we want to ensure they are safe, comfortable, and happy.

To guarantee the absolute best experience for everyone—including your little one—we strongly recommend our Private Tour  Service for families with young children.

Here is why  Private Tour  Service is the best choice for you:

The Reality of the Wild: National Park facilities are limited in remote areas. A private tour allows us to cater to your child's needs (like frequent stops or temperature adjustments) without the pressure of a fixed schedule.

The "Travel Slower" Pace: Our standard small groups (11-14 people) move together to maximize the scenery. A private tour gives you the freedom to move at your own rhythm—whether that means pausing for a nap or lingering longer to watch a squirrel.

Safety First: We want to ensure your child is safe and happy without compromising the immersion of the group experience.

Please contact us in advance! We’d love to chat about your family's needs and design a custom plan that turns this trip into a perfect memory, not a stressful challenge.

  • When is the "Right" Age for a kid to travel?

Transparency is part of our service promise. Our tour pricing structures are based on standard admission requirements for National Park activities:

    • Adult: Age 16 - 99
    • Youth: Age 6 - 15
    • Child: Age 3 - 5

While we have these categories for ticketing, we often get asked, "Is my child too young?"

At Banff Bear Travel, we believe in Travel Slower and Explorer Deeper. Our philosophy is simple: We recommend respecting the child's wishes.

The "perfect age" isn't just a number on a passport. We believe the right time to travel is when your child can articulate that they want to come along and explore with the family.

When a child is ready to express that curiosity, they are ready to engage with the stories of the Rockies, spot the wildlife, and truly enjoy the journey without it becoming a struggle. This ensures the trip is a happy memory for them, for you, and for your fellow travelers in our small group.

  • Can I bring luggage with me?

    Included per guest:

    1 small carry-on (e.g., backpack/carry-on luggage – max 55x23x40 cm)

Extra luggage? Let us know in advance—we can arrange extra space if available.

Stroller / Foldable Wheelchair? Allowed with advance notice and depending on availability.
